With mostly dry weather recently, it’s not too muddy, but it’s the muddiest state nonetheless. Today was 20 miles of dodging mud and hopping rocks. There were even some cool boulders parts of the trail.
On the people front, I ran into a couple at a shelter here who I met back in Maine. I also read a note from Sonic (a guy that I hiked in the Wilderness with) who is 9 days ahead of me but said he missed me. That made me smile.
Being sick this week, it’s been the first time I’ve started to feel pretty lonely. Only about 10% of thru hikers choose to go southbound, and I then also had a late start date. Combine that with whoever has gotten off trail at this point, and it leaves few other southbounders for companions along the hike.
But that’s OK. I get to enjoy the woods AND crush audiobooks. 🙂
