I’m at LAX waiting for my flight to Mexico, and I am so excited for the adventure ahead! I expect to arrive in Mexico City tomorrow at 4:55am, and then I’ll take a 2.5-hour bus ride to Puebla. I’m a little nervous about navigating public transportation in a new environment, but I’m looking forward to working at Yo’on Ixim! (I’ll share updates about my work later on.)
I’m also feeling a little homesick. I was in McFarland for 7 weeks, which is the longest I’ve been home in yeaaars. I spent quality time with my family and caught up with friends. Most importantly, I got to be with my dad during his surgery and for a few weeks after as he recovered. He still has 6-8 weeks before he’s back to normal, but he is making incredible progress!
As I reflect on this summer and the opportunity ahead of me, I am reminded of how blessed I am. I have a loving family, an inspiring fiancé, the best of friends and the opportunity to fulfill my dreams. I can’t ask for anything more.
Let’s do this!
