I hiked down from Moosilauke this morning – goodbye White Mountains!
Then, I stopped at a hostel. I wasn’t particularly interested in staying there because I felt pretty good and could resupply enough to get to Hanover. Also,I’d only walked 6 miles, it was early, and there wasn’t much to do in that town.
I texted my aunt, Lianne, who lives in Lebanon, NH. She has been texting me throughout my trip – such a warm and encouraging person. Her and my Uncle Allyn were on their way back from Maine, and would be passing through where I was around 4 pm on the way back to Lebanon. The forecast said massive thunderstorms after 5 pm, and there was a perfectly flat 10-Mile stretch coming up, so we made a plan and I lit out.
At 4 o’clock, they I got picked up and headed back to Lebanon. Lianne and Allyn were ecstatic to pick me up, and they have been hospitable beyond belief. You can tell they are the kind of people who think carefully about the needs of others, asking me immediately upon arriving to the house what my order of priorities would be for the night, and that they’d accommodate however they could.
I took a BATH. With a BEER. Coming down from the mountain this morning, I would have put a near-zero probability on this combination happening by end of day. My aunt and uncle had an amazing dinner of sausage, vegetables, hamburgers, and rice ready when I finished. Hhhhheeeaaavveeenn!
