I haven’t written in a long time, and I feel like 1,000 exciting events have happened since I was sitting at the coffee shop in Puebla getting ready for Mexico City!
I was in Mexico City from Wednesday, November 07 to Saturday, November 17. I reconnected with old friends, made new friends and spent time with my best friend!

I thought Mexico City would be overwhelming given its size and population, but it was surprisingly beautiful and easy to navigate.
Here are some of my Mexico City highlights:
- I celebrated my 30th birthday with my best friend, Star! Kreg, with the help of both of our families, treated me to a magical day! He asked me leave Saturday open, and he thoughtfully planned different activities so I could explore the city, eat delicious food and relax. It was a beautiful surprise!

- I visited Casa Azul, the house where Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera lived. This is by far one of my favorite museums! Frida was such an interesting and complex woman, and I was inspired by her individuality and strength.

- I spent another great day climbing the Pyramids of Teotihuacan where the Aztecs and groups before them ruled. The buildings at this ancient site are incredible– they are built with great precision and beauty.

- My last highlight was watching Lucha Libre live! This is similar to wrestling, but it’s a fun and exciting tournament of stunts and aerodynamics. The crowd is rowdy, loud and fun! Star and I joined in on the cheering as we rooted for opposing teams.

Apart from sightseeing, I also had the opportunity to reconnect with two special women. First, I met with my friend Eréndira after 10 years of not seeing her! Eréndira and I met studying abroad in Salamanca, Spain. We took an international law class together, and we instantly clicked. She is one of the brightest individuals I know and one of the most loving. After studying in Spain, she returned to Mexico and has worked tirelessly to fight for human rights in Latin America. Talking with her over lunch warmed my heart and made me very happy! Here we are in Portugal in 2008 and in Mexico City in 2018.

I also met with my sophomore year roommate, Jade! Jade and I were randomly assigned as roommates after she transferred to Brown. She is just as sweet as I remember her, and she is now living in Mexico City with her fiancé. It was special to see her again after 8 years.
One of the best things about traveling is the people you meet along the way, and I’m fortunate to be surrounded by wonderful friends- old and new, alike.
