Wednesday, August 15 “An Ice Bath after the Kinsmen” (Kreg)

Woohoo! Despite hiking up North Kinsman in fog, the clouds cleared out when I got to the peak. I could see Franconia behind me, and even Washington far off in the distance. Ahead loomed Moosilauke, the 3000 foot climb coming up the day after tomorrow.

Coming down was steeeeeep again, and nursing my knee, I went very slowly, using my poles like crutches and overcompensating with my left leg. Just a a few miles before camp, I started passing some Nobos who told me about an amazing spot to swim up ahead.

Sure enough, the trail started to follow a creek down the mountain, and it opened up into beautiful waterfalls with a big basin of water at the bottom. I took a dip, and it was cold, but perfect for the end of the hot day. I let the water ice over all of my joints and muscles, a fitting end to a great day!
