Friday, August 03 “The ‘Hardest’ (or ‘Most Fun’) Mile” (Kreg)

August 03

Mahoosuc Notch! The single most difficult mile on the trail. Car- and house-sized boulders for an entire mile. It doesn’t look like a trail at all, and it’s closer to rock climbing than hiking. Sometimes, you scramble through a hole beneath a boulder so small that you have to take off your pack and drag it behind you. It’s not particularly well blazed, so I got lost twice. Once because I got over excited and crawled through a hole that wasn’t part of the trail, and once because I legitimately didn’t know where to go. A northbounder luckily came through and showed me the way.

It was super fun. I was so excited afterward that I walked down the wrong trail for a half mile. Oops. So technically I got lost three times today. Rest of the day was actually a lot more difficult than I thought, but I currently sit 0.5 miles from the Maine-NH state line! Wiiiiilllldd!
