Longest day yet – 14 miles with some ups and downs that provided great views. Lakes up here are beautiful – deep blue ovals plopped down in the middle of all the trees and mountains.
Good news:
Trekking poles are AWESOME. My leg had no pain by end of day. Going to keep stretching and hope for the best.
I got cell service for the first time in 4 days! Talking to my mom and Rocío was refreshing. It left me feeling grateful for having such amazing, supportive people in my life.
Not-so-great news:
I decided on Monday to take the antibiotics due to the tick bite. My doctor had mentioned side effects, and I figured I could handle a stomach cramp or two, but WOW. Picture this: pitch black, 3 am, me sprinting to the outhouse through a group of tents inhabited by 15 Canadian teenage girls on a summer camp trip. After my outhouse sprint, Preston gave me the alternative trail name “Runs”. It’s a double entendre because…well…you get it.
Longer, harder days coming up. 15 tomorrow, but it’ll be mostly flat, and the pack is light with most of the food eaten. But then we grab our resupply and hit the mountains for 4 days.
[Note to self: Remember to write about Fisher, service dog, army, wife and growing up. Such a cool guy.]
